The Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter Milan was suspended after a player collapsed on the pitch on Sunday at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Italy.
Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove fell to the ground in the 16th minute after a stoppage of play. The players of both clubs immediately requested medical attention.
The 22-year-old player was taken off the field on a stretcher and taken to an ambulance, while the players, shocked, remained on the pitch.
The match of the Italian league was suspended with the result 0-0.
Later on Sunday, the club and Careggi University Hospital that Bove was sedated and hospitalized in intensive care after losing consciousness.
The club added that Bove “arrived at the emergency department in stable hemodynamic conditions and the initial cardiological and neurological tests ruled out acute damage to the central nervous system and the cardiorespiratory system.”
Bove will be reevaluated in the next 24 hours.
“Strength, Edoardo, we are with you,” Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso said in a “You are a strong boy with a great character. We are reaching out to the boy’s family right now.”
It is the second Serie A match to be suspended this year, after in April.
Fiorentina currently sit fourth in the Serie A table, with eight wins this season.
The suspended match will be resumed at a later date.
