magnitude 7 earthquake was recorded at 11 a.m. local time at a depth of 10 km in the Pacific Ocean near the coast of California, about 100 km southwest of Ferndale. This is stated by the American Institute of Geophysics. The United States issued a tsunami alert and then withdrew it. The quake was felt all along the northern coast of California and as far south as San Francisco.
The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, has declared a state of emergency. “We are very concerned about the damage particularly in the northern part of the state – he explained – As a result, declaring a state of emergency will allow us to provide more resources” to the affected areas.
