has chosen an “evocative soft brown” as its color of the year for 2025, continuing a tradition that is now more than a quarter of a century old.
“Sophisticated and lush, yet an unpretentious classic, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expands our perception of browns from humble and down-to-earth to aspirational and luxurious,” the brand said in a statement.
“A rich, warm brown hue, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse nourishes with its suggestion of the delicious goodness of cocoa, chocolate and coffee, appealing to our desire for comfort,” she added.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said the color evokes “thoughtful indulgence.”

Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, added that Mocha Mousse fuels the desire for harmony.
“With that in mind, for the Pantone Color of the Year 2025, we looked for a color that speaks to our desire for comfort and well-being, and the joy of simple pleasures that we can give as gifts and share with others,” she said.
Every December, Pantone names a Color of the Year for the following year, and this is the 26th time it has done so.
To make their selection, Pantone Color Institute experts scour haute couture runways, interior design trends, pop culture moments and human psychology.
The first Color of the Year was Sky Blue in 1999, while more recent options include , “a light, fruity hue that evokes peace and serenity,” in 2024, and , “an unconventional hue for an unconventional time,” in 2023.
